Jairam Mahato, also known as "Tiger Jairam," is a rising political figure in Jharkhand. He leads the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JKLM), a political party he established in 2024. The party focuses on promoting Jharkhand's identity and addressing local issues, including reserving jobs for locals based on the 1932 land records, implementing anti-corruption measures, and advocating for the Kudmi Mahto community, which forms a significant part of the state's population.
Mahato gained prominence in 2022 for opposing the inclusion of languages like Bhojpuri and Magahi in state-level exams, emphasizing the need to prioritize native Jharkhandi languages. This activism led to a reversal of government policies in some districts. His political journey began with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he secured a notable third-place finish in the Giridih constituency.
In the ongoing Jharkhand assembly elections, Mahato is contesting from Dumri and Bermo. While his party is unlikely to secure many seats, its influence is significant, especially among younger voters and the Kudmi Mahto community, potentially affecting the vote shares of established parties like the BJP and JMM.
